Just because you have an eye test at your local high street opticians does not mean that you have to buy your glasses there too. In fact – that could be the most expensive way of buying glasses.
When the eye test has been done you are entitled to a copy of the results. This is your prescription. You can than buy your glasses from another supplier. If you visit other optician shops on the high street, you may find a bargain – but the as the optician shops all have huge overheads (rent, business rates, staff costs etc. etc.) the chances are that you’ll be paying more than you need to.
We started a revolution in 2003 by developing the UK’s first online prescription glasses retail website. At that time we were called ‘Bargain Specs’. Our site allows customers to select a frame (choosing one that has similar dimensions to one they already own ensures a good fit) and then entering their prescription details online.
Sounds complicated? Not really. The online form is laid out in the way that most opticians write out a prescription and there are help pages to assist.
There is a good range of frames, with very cheap ones (prices start at just £14.90 – including frame, single vision lenses, case & cloth) up to amazing value designer brand frames.
A few months after launching the site the owners then added ‘varifocal’ lenses to the range from just £54.90. This was a huge development as most people thought it was impossible – but we did it.
And now there are rimless glasses, safety glasses, prescription swimming goggles, 3d over glasses, bifocal glasses, accessories etc. available to buy online.
Since launching our website many other companies have copied the idea – some even claiming that they came up with the idea in the first place and then winning awards for their idea! We don’t go all out for publicity. We just want to operate our business efficiently and professionally helping customers get the glasses they want at a price they can really afford. So far – it’s been a great success. And we want to keep it that way.
